A number which measures a research journal’s clout in a particular year. It is calculated by counting the average number of citations an article in that journal gets per year. Next, this is compared to citations of similar journals. A citation acknowledges that another scientist used the information in that article for their research. Journals with a higher impact factor are considered to be more influential.
